Only 4 Out Of 10 Americans Are Considering An EV For Their Next Car

President Joe Biden wants half of all new vehicle sales to be for EVs by 2030 but based on the results of a new survey, this may prove difficult to achieve. A recent poll conducted by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research and the Energy Policy Institute at the University of Chicago set out to determine just how many Americans plan to make the switch to EVs. Its poll of 5,408 individuals revealed that 19% of adults in the U.S. are “very” or “extremely” likely to purchase an EV for their next vehicle and that 22% say it is “somewhat likely.” Meanwhile, some 47% of respondents said it is not likely that they will go electric.Read More

Japan’s Nidec Posts First Quarterly Loss in 10 Years

Japanese electric motor maker Nidec Corp (6594.T) on Monday posted its first quarterly operating loss in a decade, hit by hefty restructuring costs and difficulty in procuring semiconductors and other components. The loss of 24.3 billion yen ($181.01 million) for the January-March quarter compared to an average estimate for an 11.75-billion-yen loss in a Refinitiv survey of analysts. “The business environment surrounding Nidec continues to be severe,” the company said, warning of a delay in the recovery of global automobile production, among other headwinds.Read More

Goldwind Notches 100 GW Milestone, Releases New Wind Turbine Models

Wind turbine OEM Goldwind says it recently eclipsed the 100 GW mark of global installed capacity, making it the first Chinese turbine manufacturer to reach the milestone. Concurrently, the company launched a pair of new turbine models: the GWH221-8.X-10 and GWH24X-12.X. Goldwind says these large-megawatt-class machines help wind developers address challenges such as unstable wind resources, unpredictable grid fluctuations and increasingly scarce development sites.Read More
